CDM: Could you tell us more about your personal style and your love for fashion.
CHRISTINA: I love effortless dressing. My personal style is casual chic and simple. I like to dress in statement pieces mixed with casual items, and also love to layer.
CDM: What are some of the challenges you faced as an emerging designer when you first started?
CHRISTINA: I love what I do very much, and tend to be a workaholic! Naturally, there are challenges all designers face from the beginning, which I’ve learned to approach with enthusiasm and curiosity. I’m always grateful for the wonderful people that believe in my work, who inspire me to keep creating.
CDM: What were your inspirations for the designs you created for this collection?
CHRISTINA: I have always wanted to create designer bow ties with a fresh and unconventional approach, especially for women. Many are also unisex, and we’re expanding to men’s as well. Bow ties are an important part of my branding, and a timeless accessory. The “Accoppiato” (a musical term for “bound” or “tied”) collection is a composition of bow ties mixed with classic, modern, and edgy designs for all types of customers.
CDM: What is your favourite part about being a fashion designer?
CHRISTINA: My favourite part of being a designer is that I enjoy creating in both design and business, and consider business to be just as creative.
CDM: What are your top three picks from this season’s collection?
CHRISTINA: They’re all so different. I would say the Gold Mesh Bow Tie with Rhinestone Center, Silver Laminated Tweed Bow Tie with Tongue Ring, and the Crimson Silk Brocade Unisex Bow Tie with White Polka Dots.
CDM: Whom are your favourite fashion designers?
CHRISTINA: As for the icons, Yves Saint Laurent and Coco Chanel to name a few, and I appreciate all brands for what they represent.
CDM: What's your favourite city? and why?
CHRISTINA: I’ve lived in a few different countries, and visited many cities, and find each place fascinating with its own culture. I love New York City the most, as it is very international, and each block has it’s own character and energy.
CDM: What’s your favourite colour?
CHRISTINA: Cool grey.
CDM: Which celebrities you feel have great style and would like to see wearing your creations.
CHRISTINA: Janelle Monáe and Alexa Chung to name a few.
